It’s better that he did his own thing rather than force himself into The Hangover II. It wouldn’t have went as well for his comedic career as it did for Tyson.
This ridiculousness if finally out, after all of the subsequent racist rants and misogyny. It actually looks like a good movie and I don’t generally judge an artists work by his worth as an individual (which isn’t much). If it comes to my city I might go watch it. It looks a lot like Will Ferrell’s new movie, stylistically anyway-a little mumblecore or just grainy, naturally lit, HD, hand-held indie.
The trend of big business using ‘indie’ techniques is churning out some interesting stuff. I don’t like to praise the machine for tricking me into liking something by dressing it up pretty for the prom and parading it around like having a hipster girlfriend is gonna make it prom king material again (I know that metaphor was long and convoluted-my creative writing degree makes it hard for my internal monologue to be normal in any tone [i paid for it dog gone it]); but every now and again it’s worth Netflick-ing stuff I’ve got reservations on or paying the $20 bucks to go see with a friend, if I’m not too broke.
